Your thoughts...

This is a touchy subject that is often considered inappropriate as public discussion. It is frowned upon, just as the discussion of politics and religion at work. There are many that are oblivious to this issue. And more than half of them are exposed to it almost daily, but turn a blind eye to the situation. Then there is the rest of the country that only sees it when traveling or on television. Sadly there are even a few that think the situation is being blown out of proportion and it is simply a matter of choice for all.

What is it that I am going on and on about? Well, I am in the process of reading a fictional novel on a corporate/government conspiracy to displace the homeless in Washington, DC. With the recent freeze assaulting the Midwest to the East Coast there were only a few stories of homeless people freezing to death. I personally doubt there were only three homeless deaths due to below freezing temperatures. Those are just the few that made the news; I guess those were the ones that were not cleaned up before the "normal" public emerged. Now, I read an article that expands on the implication that San Francisco is literally trying to wash away the homeless. Impossible, you say; I beg to differ.

If you continuously displace a person, what will they do, they will move. Seems like that is their goal. Rather ridiculous, when it would be so much easier to repair an abandoned building and donate it to an organization that supports the homeless.

Have we really become so callous that we will allow our fellow man to freeze to death on the streets? How many homeless people do you pass on your way to the coffee shop? Regardless of what you think the money may go towards give a dollar or more to the next homeless person. It is not what they use it for, it is your intention when giving it. If handing out money makes you uncomfortable, then donate to a charity that has a proven track record of giving to the homeless. Simple recommendation, you choose the best method. But know this, we cannot expect to reap a good harvest when we only sew seeds for self gain.
